Location & Directions

The ferry arriving in Kylerhea

Glenelg and the Skye ferry (April to October only): Probably the best way to reach Kylerhea is by the Skye ferry from Glenelg. If driving from Inverness or Fort William turn left over the bridge at Shiel Bridge and follow the windy single-track road over the spectacular Ratagan pass. In Glenelg turn right at the cross roads and follow the signs to the unique six car turntable Skye ferry. The ferry runs from April to October approximately every 20 minutes and no booking is necessary. The ferry trip takes about 5 minutes and on arriving on Skye the Old Inn is the first house on the right approximately 300 metres from the ferry jetty.

The Skye bridge: After crossing the now toll-free Skye bridge take the third exit towards Broadford and Portree. Follow the A87 for 5 kms and then take the first turning left, signposted to Kylerhea and the Skye Ferry. Follow the single track road for nine miles over the spectacular Bealach Udal pass down into Kylerhea Glen. The old Inn is the large house on the left on the road corner, after the otter hide turn-off and just after the small road to the right that leads into Kylerhea township.

The Mallaig - Armadale Ferry: On arriving at Armadale on Skye from the Mallaig ferry follow the A851 for 23 kms towards Broadford and Portree. On reaching the A87 turn right towards the Skye bridge and follow the road through Breakish for 4 kms to reach the Kylerhea road signposted to the Kylerhea ferry. Follow the single track road for nine miles over the spectacular Bealach Udal pass down into Kylerhea Glen. The old Inn is the large house on the left on the road corner, after the otter hide turn-off and just after the small road to the right that leads into Kylerhea township.
